Oh Dear

Over the past year, this film has gradually emerged from a strange place: part grief ritual, part creative compulsion, a constant re-working of ideas that have plagued me. Perhaps inevitably, in the aftermath of disruptive life-events, I found myself once again harnessing generative AI tools to make art as a form of regenerative therapy. There’s something voyeuristic in watching machines hallucinate your ideas into reality, while your real life quietly crumbles behind you. Growth from obliteration, blurring the lines between creation and collapse. ‘OH DEAR’ is me confronting that. It’s partially a piece about watching: watching others perform a show, watching yourself, watching the consequences of what you’ve made. But it's also about being watched, being seen, being judged. The original intent was distraction and recapitulation: the cathartic creation of an unsettling mess, uncomfortable by design, indulging in extroverted performance and introspective personal scrutiny, using AI as both medium and metaphor.
