Dahma

In a funny surreal journey through space and time, Dahma, an ancient being of immense power, races through the swirls of history in his neon-pink DeLorean. His name means "catastrophe," and wherever he appears, chaos and darkness follow. Dahma is a creator of evil, a sinister wanderer who emerges from the shadows in times of need to plunge the world into ruin. Dahma begins with motivation and energy, but eventually crashes. Then he creates an owl, which symbolizes an idea that flies away—something he chases but cannot hold onto. A black owl in particular also represents rebirth, new beginnings, and mystery. His form then defaults to a beautiful blonde woman—an easy trope, an easy “main character”—because he has no ideas left. At this point, a random dreadlocked Chinese “Kung Fu Granny” appears and attacks him. She beats his senses back into him through the fight. He realizes she is actually a former creation of his. This sparks his memory—he remembers that he created her, remembers his name, and recalls that he is Dahma: an ancient dark entity, the bringer of sudden hardships and calamity. He then rides away. The reason Dahma manifests as the woman in the red dress is partly a reference to The Matrix, but also because he defaults to the archetype of the blonde beauty when creativity runs dry. That “easy” idea then gets attacked by a more unique creation, which is both ironic and telling. Director - Max Meinold
