Bubble Th3ory

Bubble Th3ory is a soft-surreal audiovisual narrative born from a desire to suspend judgment, drift through dream logic, and let the imagination breathe in its most playful, poetic form. At its core, the work explores how visual rhythm, character motion, and lyrical language can fuse into an ambient meditation on movement, presence, and the emotional weight of whimsy. The visual concept began with isolated digital illustrations: a woman seated atop a round house waving to the camera from a pink bubble; a castle clinging to a cliff while a colossal rabbit teeters on its edge; a road unwinding into soft pastel distance with figures walking, floating, and waving. Each of these vignettes existed as quiet standalone images. But the inspiration was to connect these moments through a visual-musical narrative as well as through many iterations of AI-generated technology—— to animate them not just with motion, but with tone, atmosphere, and internal rhythm. The rap song that threads through Bubble Th3ory entitled “The JBR High” functions less like a performance and more like a narrator gliding with the viewer through the visual dream. The lyrics move with a gentle cadence, observing details in the scene like: “Man dancing’ on the road, Gotta cow slow your stroll. A dudes on a bubble, slidin’ down swagger flow”
These lines act as both guide and witness — allowing the viewer to remain inside the spell of the world without ever fully waking up. Thematically, the piece lives in a liminal space between joy and reflection. The characters never rush. They wave. They slide. They turn slowly. Everything is rendered in deliberate motion, much like a moving painting. That choice reflects my ongoing interest in tempo as a form of resistance — resisting urgency, resisting logic, and allowing the subconscious to stretch into visible form. Bubble Th3ory also reflects a broader curatorial thread in my practice: exploring how AI and animation can be used not to mimic realism, but to exaggerate softness, absurdity, and wonder. The characters and their environments exist in a state of playful balance — air balloons, bubbles, bunnies, pastel skies. And yet, there’s always a subtle emotional undercurrent: the walker who never looks back, the giant bunny who might fall, the woman waving without a response. This tension — between joy and melancholy, absurdity and truth — is what animates Bubble Th3ory. It’s a world where everything floats, but nothing escapes meaning.
