E03: Teen Angst

Nostalgic for Dashboard Confessional, Reid and Linus want to write a song that captures the overwrought angst of the modern teenager. Problem is, they’re old. Linus meets up with his teenage nephew who attends a fancy private school, but just can’t relate to his teenager problems and keeps shutting them down or solving them: “No one asked me to prom.” “That doesn’t matter at all.” “I like this girl but I don’t know if she likes me.” “Well then call her? This can’t seriously be what you’re worried about?!” Meanwhile Reid returns to his old public high school and discovers that teenagers are living WAY faster and harder than he ever did and the pressures they face are insane. He meets one girl who was Internet bullied so bad she had to transfer to a new school because of death threats. One girl is pining for unrequited love, but it’s with her history teacher who she used to sleep with. A bunch of them have been in rehab. Reid gets caught up in a drug ring within the school and realizes maybe it’s for the best that his teenage years are behind him.
