E01: Pilot

Linus is a monotonous office drone, and a former noisecore musician. Years ago, in an attempt to make a hit record, he developed an algorithm that could predict which songs would be pop chart hits, but before he could finish his album a major tech company bought his algorithm and brought him on as an employee. Now he works from home, never leaving the house, depressed and unable to make music. His wife, Melissa, is happy and content, and Linus resents her for it. And then unexpectedly Linus’ employer tells him that the algorithm is no longer making the cut. Other companies have better algorithms, and his can predict hits, but never a number one hit. He has six weeks to fix his algorithm and come up with a number one hit or he’s fired. Meanwhile, Linus neighbor Reid just quit his band for “selling out” after they agreed to open for Maroon 5. Reid maintains it’s all about the art and his girlfriend leaves him for his egotistical attitude. Now, depressed, he realizes he needs to go a bit more mainstream to try to get a number one hit to win his ex back. Linus and Reid realize they can use each other to make that number one hit. Linus can provide the commercially successful angle, while Reid can provide the human side, and they begin to work together to try to make that number one hit that will save both of them.
