The Trump Accounts Explainer

The Trump Accounts program is a government-initiated investment initiative designed to foster long-term wealth for American children under 18. Eligible minors born between 2025 and 2028 will receive a $1,000 seed contribution from the U.S. Treasury, which is automatically invested in low-cost U.S. stock index funds upon the program’s launch on July 4, 2026. Parents serve as custodians of these tax-advantaged accounts, which remain locked until the beneficiary reaches adulthood to maximize compound growth through broad-market equities. While the government provides the initial funding for newborns, families can make additional annual contributions up to $5,000 to further build the child's financial future. Once the owner turns 18, the account transitions into a traditional IRA structure, granting the individual full control over a diversified portfolio of American assets.
