Red Egg - Trailer

Red Egg is an Avant Garde silent film written and directed by Kyriaki, that explores mental illness and how the inner most reaches of our souls work in concert with our physical selves, and outside world to digest even the most complex issues of existence. The lead character played by Katie Chonacas, finds herself in a particularly isolated position brought by the loss of a family member, friend, or lover. However, the actual reasons are ultimately left for the audience to decide, the residual emotions caused by this existential shake-up force her to look at the deep seeds planted within. Every doorway is opened, and nothing is off limits, so she must do everything in her power to successfully navigate her feelings, and instill herself with a sense that she's done everything in her power to heal and grow. The film has a universality that allows any and every watcher to commit and empathize greatly with its character, but the fact that this character is a beautiful woman with a beautiful home who unapologetically navigates the darkest recesses of her metaphysical self, the audience is intentionally put in a relatively unexplored place. One that not only completely shatters the male lens and gaze that often permeates modern cinema and art, but offers both the philosophical and distinctly real treatise that, all things being equal, we are all still human, we all have extremely deep sensibilities, and we're all just as strong and just as scared as the next person. The visuals, music, and nuance of this piece drip with the emotions of its lead character. She fights until the very end of her visceral, complex, and mind-expanding journey, and in theory, she'll even more ready for the next time she has to experience such an existence-altering set of circumstances, but of course, like always, she'll have to wait and see.
