CASTING MY NINE-YEAR-OLD SELF I took a storyboard built for a completely different character and asked a question: how much of a shot is the character, and how much is the shot itself? The answer required rebuilding the shot as a transferable spec. A timecoded beat sheet for camera and rhythm. Depth maps for composition. Character reference plates for identity. Then I recast the lead: me, at nine years old, kneeling in snow, hands in ink. Nothing about the original performer survives the transfer. The shot survives completely. Currently testing which video model can hold a child's face through swirling ink. Results in the next drop.
